Lucy O'Reilly is the founder of LucyDesigns. She's a Dubliner who took off to Paris in the early 1990s after getting her degree in Modern Languages at Trinity College Dublin. Lucy spent ten years flying round the world organising conferences and events and enjoying the Parisian life. She remembers always being a bit frustrated, however, that she couldn't design her own event promotional collateral and always had it in the back of her mind to learn graphic design some day.
In 2004, Lucy moved back to Dublin when her eldest son was very small and enjoyed raising him and his two brothers closer to family and old friends. During this time, she didn't work outside the home but was always involved in various arts and cultural organisations and regularly put her hand up to do their promotional designs, social media and websites, teaching herself as she went. She was finally doing the thing she had wanted to do for years! In 2013, Lucy decided to go back to college to do a graduate diploma in Creative MultiMedia, learning about design fundamentals, digital illustration, code and webdesign. This was followed in 2017 by a BSc in Digital Technology and Design, specialising in Digital Marketing. Her aim was to cover all aspects of digital marketing and design so that she could serve clients on multiple levels.
Around this time Lucy's marriage broke up, her parents died and things were generally pretty awful. It was no mean feat trying to get paid work after close to 15 years at home with the kids. However, as she finished her degree course, she decided to put herself out there as a professional web designer. Her first paid client was thrilled with her work, so she decided there must be more out there like him! She took another course, this time about how to turn her web design passion into a business, which really set her up for success.
She's happy to say that her business has grown from strength to strength since the end of 2018. Her mission is to create beautiful websites for her clients that make them irresistible to their ideal customers. She guides them through the process from start to finish and strives to make it stress-free for all technophobes! She's now consistently booked up several months in advance. She would love to be able to share her experiences with other women in business.
